Good Afternoon Everyone! You may or may not be aware but two weeks from today the 2014 US Open Ultimate Championship will begin at the National Sports Center in Blaine. Minnesota Youth Ultimate, the same volunteer non-profit that runs our state's high school spring league, State Championship, summer league, middle school league, and other great programs earned the bid to host USA Ultimate's premiere event last fall. Since that time we have been preparing for some of the best Ultimate players in the world to descend on the Twin Cities for what promises to be the most competitive single Ultimate tournament of all time! I am writing today because we need your help to pull it off. With two weeks to go we are still in need of several volunteers for several shifts and tasks. Will you help us pull this great event off and show the world how special the MN Ultimate Community is? Ultimate Frisbee is a self-officiated sport, meaning that during the game, players resolve conflict through conversation. Ultimate Peace is an organization that brings together youth from Palestinian, Arab Israeli, and Israeli Jewish communities to play Ultimate Frisbee and foster teamwork and friendship among youth who would otherwise never meet due to the regional conflict. To raise money for this incredible organization, we are putting on an Ultimate festival called Bid for Peace. On June 28th, at the National Sports Center in Blaine, MN, there will be a hat Ultimate tournament followed by two highly competitive showcase Ultimate games. First, Pop, Minnesota's top women's club team, will face off against StarBirdThrust, a combination of the women from the best mixed club teams in Minnesota. Then the MN Wind Chill, Minnesota's professional Ultimate team, will face SubZero, the top men's club team in Minnesota. Following the showcase games, we will all head to Biff's Sports Bar & Grill where a percentage of food and drink purchases will be donated to Ultimate Peace. All players: I'm looking for nominations for captain next year. This person needs to be dedicated to frisbee and willing to work hard for the team. They need to be present all the time during the season and willing to organize some things in the off season. They need to work to improve their own game by designating off season time maybe through summer league or camps. They also need to be able to push others in becoming better players and people. If you know a person who fits this description please nominate them. Grade level doesn't matter. If you are nominated but don't want this responsibility please let me know. There are certain expectations of captains and it's not fair to the team if you accept but are not willing to fulfill those obligations. Go Wabbits!!

B Team: Again we have our first tournament this weekend in St. Cloud. The tournament details are on a previous post. If you have a carpool with open spots could you please meet at the high school athletics entrance by 6:35 Saturday morning. There are already a few students that need a ride so if there are spots in your car we really appreciate your help! If you have a car that is not full can you please post in the comments as to how many spots are open. We need to be at the fields by 8am on Saturday and you will need to leave promptly at 6:45am. A team announcement: Game is on as of right now. I have been communicating with their coach and he may want to cancel is the rain doesn't let up in order to save their fields. I will update here with any changes. If I don't update, the game is still on. Remember to bring your cleats, jerseys, water, rain gear and a hat. B Team Tournament Announcement: I hope you are all enjoying the beginning of the season. This email is specific to the B-team. If I forgot anyone please feel free to forward this to them. We have our first tournament this weekend in St. Cloud. I'll include all tournament information below including what to bring and expect. We will have a carpool leaving the high school athletics entrance at 6:45 Saturday morning. If you or your parent can drive/give rides please make that known at the game tomorrow or over Facebook. At the same time if you need a ride please make it known on Facebook or at the game. All players need to be on the fields by 8:00 AM Saturday morning. Tournament Play: Many of you have not had the pleasure of playing in an ultimate tournament yet. The day is very long and you need to be prepared for it. We will play 5 games on Saturday. It's a great thing to see and a lot of fun. In order for you to personally have a good day it is important that you are prepared. Be sure to start hydrating immediately if you haven't done so. More importantly be ready for all types of weather. What to bring: Rain Gear Cleats Both Jerseys (black and white) Water bottle (they will have places to refill your bottle so no need to create extra waste) Food (usually snack type food that you can grab and eat by the handful, clif bars, trail mix, cereal all ideas) Sun Screen Money for lunch if you want it Extra layers in case it is cold or windy (comfort is of the utmost importance) Extra Socks Tournament specifics and schedule: Right now the current schedule that is as follows: 8:00 AM - Captains Meeting 8:30 AM - First Pool Play Game 10:00 AM - Second Pool Play Game 11:30 AM - Third Pool Play Game 12:30 PM - Lunch Break 1:30 PM - First Bracket Play Game 3:00 PM - Second Bracket Play Game 4:30 PM - Third Bracket Play Game As of right now all teams are guaranteed 5 games with one bye round in the pool play. This is the current game structure I have set up: - Games are 60 minutes with no soft cap and hard cap at 55 minutes. - Games are to 13 points with half at 7. - Each team has 1 timeout per half, no floater timeouts. - We will be playing under the current edition of the rule book. - There will be 30 minutes between games for you to report to your field and prepare for the next game. If you are late to the start time of your game the other team will be allowed to take penalty points for delay of game if they chose to. Every 4 minutes = 1 point awarded to the team ready and at the field. - There will be a 60 minute lunch break from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM with games starting directly after the break. The location of the fields are at Sartell High School (Sartell High School 7th St N Sartell, MN 56377). Also there will NOT be food provided at this tournament so please either bring food or plan out where you are going to go for lunch and how to get there prior to the lunch break. There is a Coborn’s Grocery located at the end of 7th St N and is about .5 miles away from the tournament location. Otherwise there is an A&W Burger and Subway both located on 2nd St S about 1.5 miles away from the tournament location. The current seeding is as follows: 1. Green Lantern JV 2. Griffin JV 3. Whitebear Lake B 4. Pluto C 5. Green Lantern 9/10 6. Charter Stars JV 7. Raging Safari JV 8. Revolution JV 9. Wrenchbeaters JV 10. Wayzata JV 11. Maul JV 12. Charter Stars JV 3. Maul JV D: 1. Pluto C 2. Green Lantern 9/10 3. Pluto D Getting a Ride: If you need a ride to the tournament you will need to work that out with another player. We will take some time tomorrow during our game to figure out rides. Know if you can drive and how many people could ride with you. If you need a ride be ready to speak up and find one. Our plan will be to meet at the tournament location with the exception of those people who will be providing rides for other players. Those players will need to work out the specifics during practice or exchange contact information to figure it out at a later time. Really looking forward to the tournament.  Here we are again getting ready for another season to start. We will have our registration meeting tomorrow (Wednesday, March 12) after school in E-105. This year the team registration form will need to be filled out online.

Steps to being fully signed up:

1. Renew or sign up for a USA Ultimate membership.  Go to www.usaultimate.org and create a new membership.  You will need to pay $30 and complete a waiver, both of which can be done online.  Returning members will log in to their existing account with password assistance if need be.  If you wish to send the payment and waiver by mail, forms can be found on the usaultimate website.  Online payment is preferred.

2. Complete/Submit Wabbit registration

3. Print/Complete/Turn in USA Ultimate Medical Authorization Form Turn this in to Mr. Brent Allen.

4. Pay $165 to Wayzata Ultimate collected by Mr. Brent Allen in PE (Cost covers two jerseys,  league fees, tournament fees, and coaching)
